I ended up liking this one more than I expected to because it had a lot more emotional depth than the premise initially suggested. On paper, it sounds like a familiar kind of new adult sports romance, but the actual execution gave the characters and relationship enough emotional complexity that it felt more grounded and memorable than a lot of books in the same lane. Yes, the chemistry is strong, and yes, there is plenty of tension, but the emotional vulnerability is what really sold it for me.

I thought the relationship developed in a way that felt believable. It was not just instant attraction carrying the whole story. There was room for insecurity, emotional baggage, and the kind of miscommunication that actually feels tied to character instead of just being thrown in to create drama. I appreciated that both characters felt like they had inner lives beyond the romance itself, because that is usually what separates a decent romance from one that actually sticks with me.

The writing also helped a lot. It had that very readable, immersive quality where it is easy to keep turning pages, but it did not feel empty. The emotional beats landed, and I felt like the story earned the bigger moments instead of rushing through them. There is a softness underneath some of the more familiar college romance elements, and I think that is why this book works so well for so many readers. It is fun and sexy, but it also has heart and actual character growth, which made it feel more satisfying than I expected.
